Brazil: Record increase in divorces during Code 19 social blockade
RIO DE JANEIRO: The majority of people in Brazil have been confined to their homes due to the lockdown in Code 19 of 2020, where domestic disputes have taken a new turn and a record number of divorces have taken place.
According to Brazil’s National College of Notaries, the couple became tired of each other while living in lockdown and became more irritated by the boredom of the corona virus. They even separated on the way to divorce.
Brazil is the largest country in Latin America with 43,859 divorces in the last six months of 2020, an increase of 15% over the same period in 2019. These figures have been confirmed by the College of Notaries. However, the college says that the same thing must have happened in the beginning of Code 19, which could not be recorded due to the absence of staff.
But online divorce registration can also be involved because married couples find it easier to end a relationship by going online and applying on a website.
