Boat overturns after hitting whale in New Zealand; 5 people killed
Wellington: A boat collided with a whale in New Zealand, resulting in the boat capsizing and 5 passengers drowned.
According to the World News Agency, the sea of Kaikoura, a tourist area of the South Island of New Zealand, was calm under normal conditions and the flood was not known far away.
All the passengers drowned in the sea when the boat overturned. The rescue in-charge says that initially the capsizing of the boat appears to be a whale strike as whales in the area come to port, including sperm and humpback whales.
The mayor of Kikora has expressed regret over the incident and said that a full investigation will be conducted into the incident and if the cause is a whale, steps will be taken to keep whales away from the area.
